Make your Office Chairs Work for You

Monday, March 17th, 2008

When you have to sit for hours upon hours at a desk everyday, what is the one thing you want that is comfortable? That is right – a proper office chair. With office chairs at many companies you will find poor quality and cheap manufacture all leading to one thing: A sore back and stiff neck. This may be something that you are going through, or if you are a business owner, be sure you don’t make this mistake. Employees need good computer chairs.

When you are designing your home, you will go everywhere to find the perfect couch or dining chairs. You look for comfort, good design and workmanship as well as support. Well, why should office chairs be any different? You actually sit on them more than you sit on your chairs at home, so all the more reason to have one that gives you enough support for your back, your neck and good height for your legs to keep your spine in the correct alignment. You need chairs that offer an orthopedic support combined with great aesthetic appeal and functionality for your every day needs by the computer. You will find it sad that many corporations don’t think chairs are important. They simply buy in bulk whatever is the cheapest at the detriment of their employees. This can now be challenged by employees as they strive for better working conditions where they can be more productive and in less pain. With many people having home offices today, they are more aware of what kinds of office and computer chairs there are to choose from.

Even though you need to find a good chair that will help you correct your posture while sitting at a computer for hours on end, there is also something else you can do to prevent pains and aching joints while sitting at a desk all day long. You need to exercise. Stretching and getting up every hour or so will ensure that you don’t get stiff and achy and it will also help you to function better at work. There will be more oxygen and blood supply to rejuvenate you and help you think and you will be less likely to develop back and neck problems.

Of the many exercises you can do while at your office is to get up and walk around. Office chairs are now designed to be comfortable and help with back pain, but they are still not as good as stretching your legs and walking to realign the body and stimulate circulation. If you cannot get away from your desk then you can do some stretching techniques that will still help even if you are sitting down. The computer chairs in many offices do not have arm rest, so one thing you can do to relax your typing hands is to stretch them out to the side and circle your shoulders. You can flick your fingers and reach over your head. Also lengthen your legs in front of you and circle your ankles. Lift your back and breathe properly to help circulation.

These are just some things you can do along with having good computer chairs to prevent body pains.
